The University of Miami Summer Scholars Program in Applications of Mechanical, Aerospace, Civil and Architectural Engineering offers high school students a unique opportunity to delve into various engineering disciplines. Participants will engage in hands-on experiences, lab work, and field trips, gaining an introductory understanding of mechanical, aerospace, civil, and architectural engineering. The program is structured around two college-level courses, MAE 100 (Introduction to Mechanical and Aerospace Engineering) and CAE 100 (Introduction to Civil, Architectural and Environmental Engineering), allowing students to earn six college credits. Activities include problem-solving, engineering mechanics, computer simulation, and laboratory work. Students will explore topics such as basic principles of automobile engines, solar energy, fuel cells, aerodynamics, propulsion, and flight dynamics. In civil and architectural engineering, the curriculum covers structural engineering, environmental engineering, and research in engineering, with an emphasis on teamwork, communication, and creativity through group design projects and discussions on engineering ethics. Classes are held daily, Monday through Friday, with a morning session from 8:10 AM to 11:40 AM and an afternoon session from 1:10 PM to 4:40 PM.
