About this camp

The Microbiology Girls Club (MGC) Summer Camp is a six-week immersive program for high school girls in grades 7-12, designed to transform them into budding scientists. Participants engage in hands-on laboratory research, utilizing lab coats, pipettes, and microscopes to conduct real lab science. Activities include inoculating bacteria into various media for biochemical analysis, identifying unknown bacteria through examining color and consistency changes, and employing differential staining techniques and bright field microscopy. Beyond the lab, the program connects students with professional women mentors in STEM fields, offering exposure to diverse careers in ecology, engineering, marine science, and medicine. The camp also incorporates financial literacy workshops, college preparedness, entrepreneurship, mental health, social media branding, artificial intelligence, and physical wellness activities like dance, stretching, yoga, volleyball, lacrosse, ballet, salsa, Tai-Chi, and self-defense. The program culminates in a research poster presentation and awards luncheon.
